“Should we worship Bob Dylan?” was the question we put to two songwriters, Mark E Smith of The Fall and Luke Pritchard of The Kooks, in the latest issue of Uncut.
Both artists think that Bob Dylan rocks, but differ in opinion over whether he merits the reverence.
Mark E Smith thinks that no, Dylan should not be regarded as an idol. He says, “The fact that so many buskers like playing Dylan’s songs says they’re a bit cheap.”
Luke Pritchard, on the other hand, believes that, yes, Dylan changed people’s perspectives and deserves to be worshipped. “I put on one of his songs," says the million-selling indie pin-up, "and it makes me feel big. It makes me feel I can change things.”
