Its got to be Paul.Generally I hate having to pick a favourite Beatle just because I love them all but Paul there is just something all that more special about him to me.
Hes the most versatile.I always think its mental that on the white album it goes from Why dont we do it in the road to I will.He can play pretty much everything.Great guitar solo on Taxman, superb bass lines, good drums on ballad of John and Yoko and Back in the USSR.The loops on Tomorrow Never Knows were mainly his idea. The massive orchastra section on A day in the Life was his thing.Side 2 of Abbey Road was a piece of musical brilliance.
Oh I could go on about how brilliant he is but i'd better now.
Paul did have the far superior output with the Beatles and on Johns brilliant songs Paul had quite an influence on them too and was always chipping in with brilliant ideas

I was a young boy when the Beatles arrived in the States, and I'll never forget the night they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. For some reason, my attention turned to the left-handed bass player and stayed there. Over the years, the more I learned about Paul, the more he was solidified as my favorite Beatle. If you put a gun to my head and compelled me to provide a reason, it's because of his sunny outlook on life that often appears in his work. Macca could write a sad song, to be sure, but far more often, as he so eloquently said in Hey Jude, he was all about taking a sad song and making it better.
Penny Lane is my all-time favorite Beatles song, and when I had the good fortune of seeing Paul perform it live in Atlanta, Georgia in 2005, it really touched me. Long live Sir Paul!
My favorite beatle changes with the time frame. For instance, early beatles:John;break-up time:Paul;early solo years:George;character-wise:Ringo.
Roughly,my favorite while they were together is John. After the break-up,Paul.But I love all four!
Sincerely,
David Huret.
Being a bit young for in-depth Beatles analysis, I'm not sure about the future of my choice. Currently, it's Paul McCartney, but I may want to revisit it in a few years time.
I think John Lennon wrote the best Beatles song ever (A day in the life), on the other hand, George Harrison wrote a few who top nearly half of Lennon/McCartney opus. I'm talking about While my guitar gently weeps, Something and Here comes the sun.
Then again, I'd say that Macca is the most talented. Composer of songs worth listening and analysing at any time. And still rocking!
Cheers, Josip

My favorite is most definitely John. He was always witty, stimulating and challenging musically, politically and intellectually as well as versatile. The World greatly needs a man like him in this day and age and he is sadly missed. He was definitely the precursor for other politically motivated artists of today like Bono not to mention musical artists as well. I like him both with the Beatles and as a solo artist. The other Beatles were great but John is the best in my opinion. I like the man, I like the music! He will always live on!

My favorite Beatle is John Lennon. His sense of humor, talent, brilliant wit and extraordinary multi-faceted personality made hime the most interesting of the Fab 4. Twenty Six years after his death, he is still sorely missed

I thought I knew everything about Paul McCartney. But that was until I went to the World Premiere of his new classical work 'Ecce Cor Meum' at the Royal Albert Hall. There's now another chapter on this great man to explore.
After this performance Paul has to be taken seriously in the classical field. 'Ecce Cor Meum' is breathtaking. Not many artists could pull this off but Paul seems to have done it with ease.
Pauls music is inspirational. It's sometimes fun, sometimes serious but there's no denying that he was the heart and soul of The Beatles and everything he touched turned to gold. And it still does.
A living legend. Completely unmatched by anyone..........

Ringo, without a doubt. Those big blue puppy eyes and cute smile. How much fun is he having on the Ed sullivan Show, bobbing away. Ringo is a down to earth simplistic family man. He rings more true than any other Beatle and has not pursued any form of self flattery or ego nurturing. He is generous and caring and has a brilliant but understated sense of humor. Ringo was the Beatle's foundation, he held them together musically and was loved by all of them in the solo years. He has remained unchanged since childhood despite early misfortune and heady success. He is still an affable guy from liverpool. Ringo for President!!!

Paul is a genius with his classical and popular music. He writes his songs which you can relate to and they are so beautifully written. His singing is fantastic and even though John wrote beautiful songs too - and George aswell, Paul stands out - he loves music and he loves to perform - he is the best and always will be. If there wasn't The Beatles the world would be a boring place. We needed music of their magnitude in the music business. No one else will ever beat them.

When it comes to artists give me tortured over contented every time. John could never say he'd found the answers, but he continued to ask intriguing questions. With Paul life seemed to boil down to a number of kids and sheep and the acres to raise them on.
The collaboration of angry/dark John & happy/light Paul probably made Beatles songs better for the push-pull process which created them. Post-Beatles there may be a clear winner in the popularity contest; to Beatlemaniacs who decided to grow up, however, John's light continues to illumine the dark corners of human existence.
It's like looking at fine art painters: Whom do you find inspiring, Vincent Van Gogh -- or Thomas Kinkade?

I had a crush on all of them at various times when they first came out in the 60's. When I got older and past the crush age, I knew that my favorite would always be John because he had something to say. I guess I am partial to men who think about issues of the day.

Hello to everybody I just want to let everybody know that Paul McCartney is my favorite Beatles. I really love all of them. Paul is a special person who is a musical genius. His music is so inspiring. Thanks for letting me write something about my favorite Beatles.

I love Uncut but, whilst the Beatles feature was good, not to mention valid in that it had musicians ranging from reputable (Liam) to genius (Wilson) championing their favourites, to ask us to vote for our own favourite is....well, you've got the gist from my headline.
However, I would concede that it is a bit of fun and it would be (interesting?) to see who emerges as the most popular.
So....Lennon gets my vote only mainly because I prefer, marginally, his songs to Macca's. I suppose he was also the most interesting / entertaining with his opinions such as the Jesus thing.
I am a great Harrison fan. He produced the best post Beatles album and he also produced in "Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Something" the equal of anything L&M produced in the final couple of years.
Oh and I love Ringo too.

The most dignified, the most intelligent, the most moral Beatle. It's amazing what can happen when you're the quiet one... John was too self-important, Paul IS too self-important, adn Ringo is brilliant but not as good as George. For many, many reasons, George is the best. I mean, he funded the Life of Brian! AND he was in the Rutles! AND he was in the Traveling Wilburys!

When I was a teenage-girl I was totally in love with all The Beatles, but mostly with Paul - because of his handsome face, of course! Now it seems to me ridiculous, but... as I said, sorry, but I was just 12-13 or something about that. Now I prefer to hear the music he wrote and I see all of his life and can say: it's most amazing man ever. Not only because of his songs (or opera stuff now?), but because of his great inner freedom, that helps him not to depend on anything but his own imagination and princples. Sir Paul, I love you, and will be yours big fan forever!
... to be honest, I feel like a fake writing this cause I'm not a Beatles fan. However, I reckon Ringo is the greatest.
Drummers are normally just ... well ... drummers, and there's only been a handful over the years who are more than the time keeper. Ringo is one of them.
As well as his talent as a tub thumper, he comes accross as a great guy. A good few years ago - possibly 7 or 8 I discovered his Vertical Man album and that summed him up nicely.
Ringo Rocks ("said the Fat Controller").

These things are always hard to write. I've always favored either Ringo, John, George, Paul at one time or another (probably in that order). John and George came out as top favorites for me, but in the end, John edges George out as my favorite Beatle.
I love all facets about him - from his tortured past and his abandonment issues, his quick wit and lasting charm, his serious vulnerable side that you could move you to tears in less than an instant, his ability to see through all the bull shit, his neverending hope for peace and love, and lastly, the manner in which he wrote his songs - the introspectiveness of it, something wich Paul, George and Ringo have never captured for me. George's was always spiritual, Ringo is Ringo and Paul is just learning how to do that in his prime.
He was able to cut right through to the man he was, whether it was in songs like "Julia," "How?", "Mother," "God", "Look at Me," "Jealous Guy," "Nobody Loves You When You're Down and Out," "Woman," "Help!", "Strawberry Fields Forever," "Oh My Love," "Scared," - the list could go on and on.
I just love him for the truly special, enigmatic guy that he was.

and if there is something good about drugs is what they did to the beatles...

To casual observers of the Beatles it's always assumed that John and Paul were equal partners in the Beatles. Especially because John is elevated to a higher plane as he died young. When you break it down to the facts, or more specifically, the songs, more of the classic songs were penned by Paul than John. In the later years, when they had nothing more to prove, if it were down to John, I always get the feeling that he wouldn't have bothered keeping going, or would have turned to novels or films or whatever. The group needed Paul's drive to keep them fresh, constantly outperforming themselves, and all other bands. Of course they are all legends, but Paul stands out for me as a legend amongst legends. They all needed each other to push themselves on though, as evidenced by their post Beatles work, none of which even comes close to their collective work.

They're all great, but let's be fair, it's John's band. He got McCartney involved, 'allowed' George to join, and had a part in the dumping of Pete Best for Ringo. Basically, he was in charge. All right the man's a paradox, all that stuff about being a working class hero is hard to swallow for real Lennon fans, but that's what makes him so cool. You can tell a Lennon song over a McCartney tune, and John's are always more edgy and strong. Revolution, I am the Walrus and A Day in the Life, are all clearly Lennon's babies. Also, looking at their solo work, John's is the best of all four. Imagine, is perhaps the greatest song of all time, and I don't think Instant Karma, Power to the People and Watching the Wheels get the recognition they deserve. He wasn't afraid to take chances, and I think that's why he just about edges it over the others. In saying that, they all brough their on qualities to the group. Paul is a great writer, and still writes some beautiful music. George is cool in a laid back sort of way, and Ringo is perhaps everyones second favourite. The only downside to Lennon is Yoko, but respect to the guy because he clearly loved her more than anything. For me, there's no-one better than Lennon, and the Beatles would not have survived without him. Lennon is the greatest.

I always liked George Harrison. He had a way about him and an amazing aura. Maybe it was a good thing that John & Paul hogged all the limelight even though Georgie was the lead guitarist. He definitely had my admiration in embracing Hinduism and Indian music. The fact that he did showed that he was open to all influences and showed no inhibitions. My guitar still gently weeps for him....

I've always like the fact that he was quiet and principled, the fact that he wrote one of the Beatles' very best psychedelic-era songs ("It's All Too Much") and that the fact that he told George Martin he didn't like his tie at the Beatles Parlophone audition.
I thoroughly recommend Michael Palin's recent book, "Diaries 1969 – 1979: The Python Years" which includes quite a few good George Harrison stories that we haven't heard before, several of which are rather revealing.

Favourite Beatle: JOHN LENNON
Reason/s: You've Got To Hide Your Love Away; In My Life; A Day In the Life; Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds; Strawberry Fields Forever; Across the Universe; Yer Blues.
Those musical works justify why John Lennon is a favourite Beatle. I didn't grow up with the Beatles music but I have grown up listening to its music. I even play the guitar better nowadays because I listen to their music a lot, more particulaly those of Lennon's composition. Paul, George and Ringo are just perfect for the Beatles. But what made the Beatles ranked as one of the greatest acts of all time is John's musical contribution to the band.

Remember Him? I've never forgotten.
Every respect to George, Ringo and Paul.
But it was Lennon.
Perhaps the one single moment, that defined who I became, was when he died.
7 years old, thats all. A kid. A 'not knowing an awful lot' kid. But that day had such a profound effect on me you'll never know.
I recall getting ready going to school on a freezing Mancunian morning on that December day. An average day if I remember, just a sombre note flowing through it.
It was when I got home that it hit me hard.
Just after dinner we all sat in the back room watching the news flood in.. 'oh my god, it was him'. John Lennon. I remember being sat with my Dad, his protective arm around me. The interviews, music, images of lennon just shouting at me from the TV screen - it was really powerful stuff. I just burst into tears. That particular moment, John saying "I don't believe in dying, its just like getting out of one car..." hit me like a train. I knew everything about John Lennon even as a naive kid. My Dad, just pulled his arm tighter and told me 'not to be sad, as he'd be remembered in his music', to me that didn't seem enough. It started an lifelong friendship with John Winston that, I suppose, in a weird kinda way, we've been inseperable ever since.
When Lennon got shot, I reckon this world lost a proper friend, one, most of us never met - but we all knew.
I reckon when he died, something formed my personality like no other loss could - or has subsequently.
Its funny, I was in New York on business, walking past the Dakota last year (2005)- and totally coincidentally, it was JL's 65th birthday - I didn't know it at the time, as there was no huge Americanized procession or anything, but thinking brought me to twig the occasion. I poked my head round the entrance and had a quick chat with the doorman there. Nothing in the visit really, not planned, not pre-meditated. An empty gesture I suppose. Just me, the gate, the archway to that fateful dakota three-stepped door-way entrance, where he tried to struggle up to safety and my own thoughts. 'This is where it all came to an end'. I didn't feel overcome or anything just kinda happy that me and him were alone there. A poinagncy i got when I ws 7. And off down central park west i walked.
7 year old don't get affected like that unless you are close to something. Thats why John Lennon is.
Kind Regards,
Joel Perry

I've come to appreciate George more as time goes on. I believe George is the one who sincerely embodied the essence and spirit of what the Beatles stood for in their spearheading of the entire peace/love movement of the 70's.
He was the most spiritual and the one who seemed least interested in and needing of the spotlight which turned out to be a necessity seeing as how much of his talent was stifled by Paul and John. It was not until he could record on his own, free of the encumbrances of the other two that we could really appreciate the talent he had. All Things Must Pass is easily the best post-Beatles Beatles album and rivals anything the group did as a whole. With "The Concert for Bangladesh" George also was the initiator of concept of the benefit concert.
George was a genuine kind soul.

Hi, well my vote would definitely be for Paul. In his ballads he says what only other men would dream of saying, then he blows the myth of being only able to write ballads with Helter Skelter!!
At a Macca gig you can be crying one minute to Let It Be, the next jumping to something rockier. I know he has written the soundtrack to my life. I would even go so far as to defend the frog chorus. In a world filled with hate and intolerance he tells us to stand together, and I'm sure if it makes only one person smile for 4 1/2 minutes I'm sure the great man would be happy with that.
I've been to 3 Macca gigs, the last one being the homecoming gig in Liverpool, and there is nobody that even comes close to knowing what the crowd wants to hear. This is the man who wrote "and in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make". I do believe the Beatles wouldn't have been as great without any of the 4 personalities that made the band what it was, but for me Paul's talent was limitless. He once said that he would play live as long as people wanted to see him. Paul...I would pay to watch you perform, you are a genius!

I`ve always felt that John and Paul stands out equally to me when it comes to deciding who`s my favourite Beatle. I admire Paul`s work ethic as a songrwriter and instrumentalist which I think in some cases pushed John to come up with some of his best songs when it was time to make an album.
John, without doubt, had the the strongest personality; his wittines, brutally honest public statements, personal lyrics and sharp edged intellectual mind which lasted throughout his life. He`s one of the few rock stars who stands out as a pathfinder and the voice of of a generation. Ambitious, yes, but not too self concious.
After the break up I also admire them equally up until John`s death. No one else, but John could have written songs as meaningful as God, Imagine, Mind Games, Working class hero and the songs from Double fantasy which showed a man who finally had found peace with himself, tragicly to be taken away. Paul, on the other hand made good pop music throughout the 70`s with Wings, became a bit pathetic in the 80`s and should by now in my opinion be long since retired.
john = most experimental ,most distinctive vocals, wittiest, joint best songwriter with paul nothing without the other imo
paul = best vocalist , most talented musician over all, nicest beatle, hardest working, and equally as good songwriter as john if not more productive in terms of qauntity .
george= vastly underused maybe through fear of actually been as good if not better in some cases as a songwriter in the BEATLES not solo but within the period and the gel of the whole band had the least output but most consistent in the lack of chances to to make a shocker, also very good vocals quite similiar to lennons without the rusk.
ringo= the drummer and a very good drummer at that his fills where and are pretty much his style and very recognisable , great character, the funny one, nice deep voice,
imho paul pips it for me he was the one who was 100% commited always writing wanting to keep doin it , and overshadowed by lennon because of his status gained through his sad death paul has become the scape goat for all the bad that happened in the beatles and is alsothe most succesful composer ever by guinness book of records and has the most covered song ever yesterday. :)

i know that john will win....just because he was murdered that kind of way, but Paul was the best by miles!.First, he have the best voice (the voice in Helter Skelter is pre-axel rose or steven tyler, the voice in here, there and everywhere is well from angels!,
you want another michael jackson? hear "girlfriend" and anyone have heard "check my machine" or "moonkberry moon delight"? is out of this world!) John has the same voice always(like the voice of an old lady!)...Paul was the man with all the instruments, john was poor with all! Paul was the best man "Live" and the best record live from the beatles is "Wings over America"!.He wrote all kind of music: reggae , disco, classical, pop, rock, for kids...he had more number ones in the time that john still was putting records out 1970-1976.I will keep on and on but just think that: ask anyone in the street(not the core beatle fan) just a music lover what is the beatle song that he knows and love better and for sure they answer one of these: "yesterday", Hey jude" or "let it be" ! (we know who wrote and sing these!)

OK John was the brains, Paul the musician, George the spiritual center. Let's not forget the man behind the kit!!! Ringo was my inspiration ever since I saw him on the Royal Variety Show in the UK (1963), my dad in the US Air Force working in England had brought home Please Please Me LP and I was instantly drawn to the band. Spending my time beating along on pots, pans, and boxes, I became Ringo for a while. Ringo was the glue that held the band together, so funny and easy going he was the perfect foil for the serious J.P. and G. I still drum and love the band, no one comes close!!

It has to be John for me, while I think Paul was equally talented for me John had that little bit more, more gritty, he was a risk taker in his songs while Paul played it safe and John had a unique talent with using his psychedelic poetry lyrics in song, unfortunately we never got to see this from John as much as maybe we should as The Beatles were coming to their end and John's interest in the group was becoming less with each passing day, I refer to songs like I am The Walrus, Lucy in the sky with diamonds or Across the universe, Paul could never write like that!
John had the real rock voice too with songs like Revolution, I really dont agree anyone should compare Paul or John's talent but put on the spot its John for me everytime!

How is it that John gets two Gallaghers to appraise him, Ringo and George each get Dave Grohl and Johnny Marr, respectively while Paul gets Brian Wilson? It looks as if you couldn't find a current artist to pay tribute to Paul. And while that is obviously not the case it's what it looks like. "Ha! They had to get an old timer like Wilson cause all of the new lads just wanted to talk about Lennon" or some such. Not cool. Btw, no dis towards Brian, just trying to make a point. And that is...the deification of John Lennon must stop. Now. Just listen to his solo output post-Beatles and you'll catch wind of his mortality instantaneously. Unless you are...what is that word you guys use...? Ah, yes: daft. Yes, unless you are daft.
Good job, regardless.

I'm going to have to go with George Harrison. Nothing against the rest of them, but I've always favoured the quiet humblessness he had about him. Some say more when they say nothing at all. While they all contributed a great deal, he really added a flavor to the music, and he is a great guitarist, hands down. He's a very mysterious man, and I just can't get enough of him. He's definitely the most interesting Beatle, and my favourite of the four.
Warwickshire
First of all, regarding Liam Gallagher's comments on the subject in the latest Uncut magazine, page 53: "It's bollocks when people start going on about how they heard The Beatles when they were 5 - no one gets into music that young. I was playing with cars and stuff then."
I was playing with cars too, but I became a fan of the Beatles in the first week of September, 1963, when my elder sister started playing their records and I was 5 then.I used to play their records and went to see 'A Hard Day's Night' twice at the cinema with my Mother the first week it came out in 1964- I was 6 then. A Christmas present that year was the 'I Feel Fine' single - I was 7 by then!
In answering your question of who the reader's favourite Beatle is, I'm more of a fan of the group as a whole than the 4 members individually. I think Lennon and McCartney's greatest asset was the incredibly complex, yet catchy tunes they wrote.I think they both had a natural gift in finding the right words to fall into the right places... even in the simple meaning songs like 'If I Fell' and 'From Me To You' which, for the type of song they are, are faultless. No other pop performers quite had this.I never felt there was any particular great meaning to their songs later on when the boy/girl theme ended, other than they were just great pop songs.I therefore feel that some of John's later songs are put on a pedestal that even he may have been a little confused by.
Paul is my favourite Beatle, but only just.I prefer his songs to John's, but only just, because he is so versatile. It's the balance of those 2 that really made the Beatles what they were. And George's contribution made them even greater. And Ringo was perfect as the man in the background. As a 5 year old Ringo was my favourite Beatle... but by the time I was 6 it was John because he used to make me laugh with that look he had on his face.

It started back in 1990 when my other half Hannah and I were both 16 and of `very’ curious minds.Along with Hendrix Traffic and Dylan we were turning on with The Beatles and one specific song would be listened to repeatedly almost obsessively, the needle being put back to the beginning...the song being `Within You Without You”....
Pure Brilliance.....
With that song George became our favourite Beatle and one of the biggest influences in our life.
Its been said many times before but his solo album All things must pass is one of the greatest albums of all time and is easily in my top ten where you wont find another Beatle solo album....and the sometimes forgotten beauty of `Long Long Long' off the White album has become my favourite Beatle/George tune...

Lennon and McCartney are the best song wrtinging duo there has ever been, or will ever be. However they are a duo, they needed each other. George on the other hand was a songwriter in his own right, and despite not being as prolific as John or Paul, his songs are amoung the most beloved that have ever been written. Just look at them; "Something", "Here Come's The Sun", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Taxman" etc. are all wonderful. He is also souly responcible, for better or worse, for the indroduction of the Sitar and Indian music into western culture. I also belive he was the most philosophical out the fab four, just listen to the lyrics of "Within You Without You" - "we're all one, and life goes on, within you and without you" - you could base your whole life's philosophy upon those simple words.
But aside from the music, George is the most likable Beatle and has proved this throughout his life. He organised the concert for bangladesh, using his fame for unselfish reasons more effectively than Lennon ever did. Eric Clapton, George's best friend, ran off with his wife Patti Boyd, but they stayed friends until Harrison's untimely death, a sign of a truly nice human being. George also funded "Monty Python's Life of Brian", just imagine if that comedy classic had not been made! The list goes on.
So if i have to choose a favourite Beatle (a very hard desicion might i add) it has to be George.
Thessaloniki
Well, I do like all of them! But George has this "Something" that makes him my favourite! And I think we have our birthday really close: he, on the 24th and I on the 25th February! John is also great, Macca is good and Ringo is fine, too. But George is even more than all these! He's the best! George#1!!!!!!

When I think of the Beatles as a group, musically, it's impossible for me to point out one. But as induviduals, personally, I like all four of them for different things. I like Ringo for being funny and having an excellent humour. I like John for his jokes and honesty, and for always picking at Paul on TV-interviews. I like Paul for seeming to never understand that it's John picking at him and for being so on-going and positive all the time. And I like George for being so quiet and mysterious but still so charming and determant with strong opinions.
My favourite is probably Ringo or George. I like them all, but they're the best ones, standing out even though they weren't a part of the Lennon/McCartney duo.
But of course it's impossible to name one or three or I don't know, because they're all so great.
They're the fab four.

All four is my favourite. But to vote for only one, it has to be Paul. He is the Genuine Beatle.

if anyone seriously wants to contribute their opinion to this poll ,the fact that john lennon was tragically murdered and taken from us in 1980 should be put to one side.
paul mccartney can never compete with lennons iconic status because of the tragic events of 1980.FACT
paul mccartney musically was by far the most prolific beatle both as a solo artist and within the beatles.maybe its not so cool these days to talk up maccas brilliance, after all he is a 64yrold mega billionair whos in the middle of a tabloid fuelled divorce from a dispicable mouthy toad!
but dont be fooled by the kind of mince that the oasis brothers preach from their own lennonesque guide to the beatles.
for every great lennon beatles song you could name two or three equally as good if not better by mccartney!and paul contributed far more to the others songs than they did to his.the unique bass line to georges "something",the tape loops to johns "tommorow never knows" e.t.c
mccartneys songwriting will in my opinion overtake that of lennons as history evolves and sentiment will become less of a factor.

George Harrison, without a doubt. He was always overshadowed by Len/Mac, to the point of almost being "controlled". Never allowed to "Blossem" as a song-writer, even greatly ignored by the world as a great guitarest, but, when the bubble did burst, he showed the world what George Harrison could really do. If he had been into commercialism instead of spirituality, just imagine what beautiful "Pop or Rock" music he could have made. He had great lyrics anyways. I always give him a plus for doing what he believed in, instead of just writing pop songs for the material wealth. Don't get me wrong. I Love all The BeaTles....I always will. There is really no "favorite" Beatle, if you are trully a die-hard Beatles fan. It took the FOUR of them to make The BeaTles!! The Greatest Band of ALL Time!!
London
I've been a Beatles fanatic since a young age and my favourite has always been John. But having read Noel Gallagher's piece about him in the magazine made me think.
When you hear everybody moaning about they way that footy fixtures are moved around because of Sky TV, it must have been even worse in 1980, when matches were seemingly moved just to suit local radio.
Noel Gallagher says that he was listening to the City on Piccadilly Radio when the announcer cut in to give news of John Lennon's murder.
Now John Lennon was killed at 10.50pm New York City time on a Sunday night, which made it 3.50am on Monday morning in sunny Manchester. So either Man City were playing in the middle of the night just to get on the radio or the news of Lennon's death took 6 days to reach Manchester...

The beatle star still shines brightest.
No matter how big a band grows, the beatles will always be bigger.

I say George, for no particular reason other than I think he is/was the coolest looking Beatle.

Everyone has an opinion and no question all four were extremely talented.John Lennon was the leader he started the band and was the reason they didn't up as simply another pop band like "hermans hermits".It was his genius and original thoughts that eleveated them to another level which no band or person has been since. When they look back on the 20th century it will be John Lennon and the Beatles that will be remembered in music.
What makes you admire him was he put everything on the line for what he believed. He had faults and made mistakes but he always pushed the limits and used his fame to deliver meassages for world peace and love. From the beginning until the pepper album Lennon was the driving force behind the band and i'm know Ringo on numerous occasions has said the same.I'm sure Paul would agree he learned most of what he knows from John and make no mistake Paul is talented but not an original like "JOHN LENNON".He would have made his best music and been a voice for a generation in this crazy confused world we live in today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE MISS JOHN LENNON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No question not even close!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One Ringo to rule them all!!!!
John is cool, witty, GREAT nose, and he is creepy in such a fascinating way. His songs are the best but he couldn't have done it without a little help from his friends!
One Ringo to rule them all!!!!

There is only one reason to vote for Paul. He is clearly the most gifted in voice, musicianship, songwriting. This is NOT to distract from the others...they had important contributions, but as a musiian, producer, there will NEVER BE ANOTHER PAUL McCARTNEY.
The one and only! No one matches John Lennon in talent, humour, voice, coolness, honesty, looks and so forth. And his songs always great and surprising!!
It has to be George - 'While my guitar gently weeps' obviously, the acoustic version being so beautiful it hurts. His are the songs that grow on you as time goes by, not as instantly catchy as the Lennon/McCartney songs, perhaps, but that doesn't matter as you slowly discover the beautiful melodies of 'within you without you', 'love you to', 'I want to tell you', 'long long long'...And yes, I do adore his voice on 'do you want to know a secret'! George forever!

I relate to the man more. I like his beatle and and solo music more. And I love his sharp wit and activisim. I love Paul, George, and Ringo, but it wasn't easy just picking one

I have loved the Beatles since I was 7, and I'm 50 now. What made the Beatles so great (besides their talent) was their individuality, how each of their particular gifts added something unique to their music. But when all is said and done, George was "The MAN." Being the baby of the group, he was dismissed as a songwriter and much of his truly brilliant work didn't come to light until the Beatles broke up. He just was such a good human being, and so widely respected by so many: but he didn't toot his own horn. Although many people think of John (my second favorite) as "THE Love and Peace Beatle," I believe George was. Just look at his life, and listen to his music, especially his Post-Beatles work.

George is my favorite Beatle. I love him for so many reasons-his cute, shy, crooked smile; his shyness & insecurity; his fantastic musical ability & most importantly, his love for the Lord. He has brought so much joy to my life that it will never be the same without him. I am not really a Beatles fan at all, but George is & was the heart & soul of that band. May he ever remain in our thoughts & prayers.

I cannot decide on who is my favourite beatle. Absolutely impossible. To me, they are like a sum of brilliant songwriters whose musical abilities intertwined perfectly. Maybe a light soft spot for John because of his fate. I love them all anyway!

I've never been one to choose favorites in any situation, but for the purposes of this exercise, I vote for George. He's done more for me and helped me grow on personal, spiritual, and musical levels. George is also underappreciated, and I know the feeling. Long live his music!
Love. Peace.

Like many others have said, it's kind of silly to pick just one favourite Beatle yet irresistable. They are the undisputed Kings of Rock! I believe that what made them special was the magic of all 4, but without either John or Paul, they would not have been the Beatles.
John and Paul were in a class of their own. By the time the Fabs broke up Paul was only 27 years old! He was definitely the Prince of Rock, with the coolest fashion, the barefoot on his balcony acoustic serenades to female fans on the street below, the pure of heart simplicity in his songs of love and his legendary screaming of rockers like Helter Skelter.
Paul is true genius - The so called simplicity of some of his lyrics is the proof of this. Good Day Sunshine is a favourite of mine - Funky beat, catchy, rockin' and..."I'm in love and it's a sunny day" Yeah!! That's what I'm talkin' about!....Don't be fooled in to thinking that Lennon was the only one who wrote about his feelings - Paul was just usually more subtle.
Even in songs that were apparently about fictional characters, Paul's nature and beliefs shine through with a message of hope and faith and love. Paul McCartney carries the Beatle torch with dignity and class.

Being in "the greatest band of all time" can easily turn you into a wanker. At some stage or other, in some way or other, it did to three of them. Not Ringo.

George Harrison 100%. It used to be John, but when I found out he was a heroin addict and used to beat his wife, I realized what kind of person he was. George was a perfect guitar player; never played anything excessive, just what was neccessary and it was always perfect for the song. Listen to the guitar solo from the single version of "Let It Be." It's breath-taking. Never did anything to hurt anyone and never played a bad note.

100 years from now Paul will be viewed as the most important musician/songwriter of all time. Period!
If I were to answer without thinking, I would say John. His songs were always challenging. When I think about it, though, the Beatles tracks that just make me feel good are most often Paul's. He just has a way with a melody. John wrote some monumental stuff, but it just gets blown away by Paul's best work, like "Let It Be," "The Long and Winding Road," and "Hey Jude" -- not to mention the most popular song of all time, "Yesterday."

George Harrison....He always had such a great sense of humour, and the scene in "A Hard Day's Night" where he wanders off into the wrong office and does the "And who's this Susan when she's at home?" routine sealed the deal when I was 4 years old.
I know he has been perceived as "preachy" and generally unhappy and hermit-like, but from what I've learned over the years, and became even more obvious after his death, is that he has friends beyond measure and inspired their love and loyalty with his kindness and huge sense of humour.
I had heard once, I don't know if it's true, that John and Paul hated the Rutles. Anyone who can take that degree of fame and help create a parody of it and laugh along, showed me that he really didn't take himself or his fame that seriously. I think he loved his family, his music and his friends, just a little more "quietly" than some.

You can’t have a favourite Beatle. It’s always the other three making your “favourite” A Beatle. Beatles were not 4 guys in a band, they were…Gestalt.
